Skull it... Row it... Sail it
After our outstanding success with the Thames Waterman Cutter, The Great River Race now has conceived and developed the shorter, lighter, sail and oar GRR Jolly Boat - again designed and built by Mark Edwards at Richmond Bridge Boathouses. Jolly Boat is versatile - Designed for four oarsmen, four scullers and basic sailing, GRR Jolly Boat is at home on inland waters or estuaries. An extra washboard can be added for more demanding conditions It has seating for two passengers in addition to the coxswain.
Jolly Boat is traditional - Based on a ships boat of the late 1700s, the 25 long, 4 6" beam GRR Jolly Boat is clinker-built in 9mm marine ply (epoxy coated for strength and hard wear) or low maintenance grp (in customers colour choice), both fitted out in oiled iroko timber. Jolly Boat is modern - Light yet safe, the fine lines and ease of operation make it particularly satisfying for youngsters. Their trainers - mindful of the increasing tendency to encourage young people to scull more than row - will appreciate its dual sculling/rowing character, as well as its ability to sail. Jolly Boat is fun - With its - optional - free-standing mast, spritsail or lugsail rig and easy-fit leeboard, GRR Jolly Boat can be ready for basic sailing in five minutes. And all the gear is easily stowed away, without interfering with rowing or sculling. Jolly Boat is for you - Young or adult, novice or experienced, able-bodied or disabled, GRR Jolly Boat has been carefully designed to make it equally suitable for all, whether training, racing, picnicking, camping - or just off for that trip to the pub. Moreover sea cadet, sea scout and other youth organisations will find it a welcome alternative to the heavy rowing-only craft currently available to them.
Jolly Boat is well-equipped - Four oars, one seven-foot boathook, one under-thwart drawer, six fenders and lanyards, twenty metres throwing/mooring/towing line, spare rowlocks, repair kit and bucket, sponge and baler are all standard. Optional extras include: Additional oars or sculls, flag pole and socket (forward or aft), flag pole for large flag, flag for stern, two hinged tallow trays and tallow, painting/gilding of cove outside, rescue throw bags, boat truck, mast, sail, leeboard or centreboard.
